Cowboys vs. Eagles Sunday Night Football Highlights: Dallas earns image-changing victory in playoffs

 


The Eagles lost their second consecutive game away to the Dallas Cowboys, 33-13. Dallas led 24-6 at halftime, scoring on its first four possessions, and the Eagles turned the ball over three times. Rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter gave the Eagles a glimmer of hope by recovering a Dak Prescott fumble in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough. Philadelphia and Dallas are currently tied for first place in the NFC East with both 10 wins and 3 losses. Next, San Francisco has a three-way tie for the top seed in the conference, giving them a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Eagles will be back on the road next week, taking on the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. The Seahawks, who lost to the 49ers on Sunday, are 6-7 and currently out of the playoffs. 


Game summary: Cowboys 33, Eagles 13
 


1st Quarter 

 The Cowboys scored a 13-yard touchdown on their first drive. Dak Prescott hit CeeDee Lamb on third-and-2 to create a big lead. The referee initially threw a flag for the play, but ruled the play was not offensive. (Cowboys 7 – Eagles 0) With the Eagles moving forward and just outside the red zone, Jalen Hurts fumbled a quarterback draw play. Donovan Wilson loosened the ball and retrieved it. This was Hurts' fourth lost fumble of the season. Brandon Aubrey's rookie year dominance continued. The kicker easily made a 60-yard field goal, giving the Cowboys a two-point lead. Aubrey remains perfect in field goal attempts during his short NFL career. (Cowboys 10 – Eagles 0)
 


2nd Quarter
On a fourth-and-2, Braden Mann took the snap and fired a pass to Olamide Zachias for a 28-yard gain. Field goal! Jake Elliott hit a 52-yard field goal just outside the right upright to send the Birds down the field. Philadelphia's fake punt worked. (Cowboys 10 – Eagles 3) The Cowboys' offense continued to perform well. Rico Doodle barely sent the ball across the goal line for a 1-yard score. Dowdle was initially ruled short, but after review, it was ruled a touchdown. (Cowboys 17 – Eagles 3) Field goal! Elliott followed with a 44-yard field goal just outside the right upright. A sack by Micah Parsons on second down pushed the Eagles back. (Cowboys 17 – Eagles 6) The Cowboys extended their lead with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Michael Gallup. The referee threw the flag again, but ruled there was no offensive pass interference on the play. Two costly penalties by Kelly Ringo on the same play gave the Cowboys a quick march down the field and good field position. (Cowboys 24 – Eagles 6)
 


3rd Quarter
Safety Reid Blankenship left the game with a concussion after being ejected in the second quarter. A.J. is desperate to score at the start of the first half. Brown fumbled on the first drive. Stephon Gilmore knocked the ball out just before Brown's knee hit the ground. Damone Clark picked up the loose ball. However, the Eagles made a three-point shot. landing! Fletcher Cox flicked the ball out of quarterback Dak Prescott's hands and Jalen Carter was there for the scoop and score! The 42-yard fumble return score was Carter's first career touchdown and briefly brought the Birds back into the game. (Cowboys 24 – Eagles 13) Aubrey made an automatic field goal, this time from 59 yards out. Two penalties against the Cowboys forced them into field goal range. (Cowboys 27 – Eagles 13) The Eagles failed to score on fourth-and-8 from the Dallas 29-yard line. When quarterback Jalen Hurts faced a blitz, he threw the ball to DeVonta Smith, who only gained one yard after being eaten by Gilmore. Early in the drive, Smith had his fingertips on a sure-fire touchdown, but couldn't sustain it.
 


4th Quarter
Another field goal by Aubrey, this time from 45 yards left, gave the hosts a three-point lead. (Cowboys 30 – Eagles 13) It was the third time in the game that the Eagles fumbled a football. This time it was DeVonta Smith. Marquez Bell shot through the middle and took a big lead. Then he hit the ball out and Malik Hooker was there to recover. Aubrey made 30-of-30 field goals in his NFL career. He scored his fourth goal of the night from 50 meters, earning him the final points of the match.
